Holiday hot spots in Australia
Australia is a very popular destination for both young and mature travellers. The country offers a unique diversity of culture, scenery and wildlife. There are so many things to do and see in Australia that even a year can leave you with wanting to go back to see the things you missed. The amount of the country you can see depends on the time you have available and the length of your trip.
Australia is so big and offers so much that I am going to give you just a taster of what you can expect to see.
Perth
Western Australia is a fantastic place and Perth is considered one of the most isolated cities in the world. The reason for this is the distance that Perth is away from the rest of the big cities in Australia. Melbourne is a 5 hour flight from Perth. It is easy to overlook how far apart major cities are in Australia.
Perth is a thriving city and combines the hustle and bustle of the big city life with the beauty of top quality beaches and isolated countryside. Perth is a fantastic base for travel to the north west and south west parts of Australia. Just south of Perth is the famous wine region of Margaret River where you will be able to visit the winery and taste the wine. North of Perth is the fantastic mountain region of the Kimberly’s.
Adelaide
Adelaide is on the south coast of Australia. Adelaide has a less tropical climate which makes it less popular with tourists. Adelaide is a beautiful city and is an excellent gateway to Tasmania. South Australia is renowned for its wines and luscious countryside.
Melbourne
Melbourne is a great starting point for a trip to Australia. Melbourne offers slick city lifestyle and miles of beautiful coast. Melbourne is of coarse the home to the soap Neighbours and all you fans out there will be sure to make a visit to Ramsey Street. Melbourne is a good place to start the long drive along the famous great ocean road.
Sydney
Sydney is a unique and bewildering city. Its fantastic architecture and modern structures will entertain you for as long as you are willing to stand and stare. Sydney has the most idealistic beaches which are situated very close to the city centre. In Sydney you are never far away from anything. Sydney offers a fantastic range of restaurants, bars and clubs. The two main areas of Sydney are The Circular Key and Darling Harbour. Both these venues have ample entertainment and you could never tire of their beauty. Sydney is a vibrant expanding city and is unique in incorporating peaceful living within a short distance of the hustle and bustle.
Brisbane
Brisbane is an ultra modern city and is the gateway to the tropical north east Australia. The newly renovated riverside provides a wonderful peaceful escape from the city. This new park has clear views of the city and they have produced a man made beach that is superb for cooling off in the heat of the day.
Cairns
Cairns is of course the gateway the world famous Great Barrier Reef. Most people who visit Australia want to see the spectacular reefs and journey up to Cairns for this reason. Cairns is barely more than the size of a small British town but is the largest for many miles. Cairns has a unique aboriginal feel to it and many of he typical Ozy souvenirs can be bought from here.
Darwin
Darwin has a very hot climate and can be quite a shock for first time visitors. The sun should not be underestimated in this region and it is strongly recommended to wear a high factor sun lotion. Darwin is surrounded by some amazing national parks and they are a must see for travellers to this area. They contain some extremely beautiful waterfalls and lagoons, which you are free to swim in. Darwin is not subject to 4 seasons and only has wet and dry seasons. Both seasons produce hot temperatures.
Alice Springs
Alice Springs is very isolated from the rest of Australia and the region only has one road in and one road out. Alice springs has great aboriginal influence and is a great place to start a safari. Alice springs is a good base for a trip to Ayres Rock.
